“When One and One Don’t Make Three is culled from 40 years of my newsletters. Interestingly, all the postings remained relevant to those in the challenge to build their family.” – Helen

For anyone navigating the emotional weight of infertility, this collection offers something rare: the feeling of being truly understood.

Drawn from 40 years of Helen Adrienne’s newsletters, these essays are as relevant today as when they were first written — because the struggle with infertility hasn’t changed. Aspiring parents still feel locked out of what seems to come naturally to everyone else. The wait still feels interminable. The emotions still need somewhere to go.

Each essay normalizes the dozens of challenges that come with this journey and offers practical, compassionate methods for coping with the stress, grief, and uncertainty that accompany it. Readers will find reasons to feel seen, supported, and — most importantly — hopeful.

Because most people do make it to parenthood, one way or another. This book is here to help you get there.

Book Review:

“With a therapist’s ability to convey validation for the struggles, and the author’s unique poetic skill, Adrienne offers pithy essays that shed light on the fertility dilemma, while interspersing compassion for the pain with the gentle comfort of humor and the welcomed gift of hope.” – Bette Freedson, LCSW
