On the Shoulder of the Road is a collection of short and punchy poetic musings by Helen Adrienne which captures milestones and multi-generational slices of her life that reveal the trajectory of the person she has become. Underneath the unfolding of the flow of events in her life, is an invitation for readers to capture their own essence bit by bit with an eye toward evaluating the path they’ve been on. Inferred would be the option to course correct so that they, in fact all of us, can find meaning in the choices we’ve made or will make.

A narrative of the author’s life would have had to labor in order to have the impact that these poetic impressions create by using the framework of the parts to visualize the unfolding of the whole.

On the Shoulder of the Road

Good things come in small packages. On the Shoulder of the Road is a sweet and poignant book of poetry by Helen Adrienne. In this slim volume of poems, Helen allows us to see the world through her eyes at many different stages of her life. The book chronicles memories from early childhood hanging upside down on the bars of backyard swings, to marriage, then the birth of her three adored children, divorce and, finally and ecstatically, the excitement and wonder of new love. Many of the poems will resonate with those who are lucky to have vivid memories of their own life’s journeys, but the book will also jog the memories of those whose past experiences were enshrouded in the fog of time. On the Shoulder of the Road is a lovely reminiscence. -Claire J. Tunick

This is a very sweet book of poetry with a beautiful window into the author’s life and story. – Debra Berman
